Mongolia should just invade

I have three classes right now where I'm talking about Mongolia: anthropology, communications, and humanities. I did this because I had a project in communications to talk about a water crisis somewhere in the world and how to solve it. I wanted to delve deeper into Mongolia, so when I was assigned to work in the Asia panel, it worked out when no one wanted to talk about Mongolia... or, at least before I did. Anthropology was pure chance.

Mongolia is nomadic. Half of the population still roams the plains and steppes, herding their livestock and living in semi-permanent structures. Mining in the region has drawn vast amounts of water, and combined with climate change worldwide, the aquifers in the region are drying up. Their livelihood of several thousand years is just desecating in front of them. This has caused many nomads to move to the city to make a living where they still don't get enough water to be clean. Historically, pastoral nomads have been the kinds of cultures that overthrow agricultural civilizations. Think Franks and Vandals to Romans or Mongols to China. They do this because they need more land and resources.

I'm tossing around the idea of presenting a small scale invasion of Russia or China as a viable option for the Mongolians to solve their water issues. I did the math for trying to import water and the numbers there were ungodly. Short of building a canal from Russia's nearest lake, which I'm sure they'd be thrilled about, I'm not sure what else they could do.
