I was born in Utah, but my first language was Spanish. My mom is from Panama and my dad served a mission for the LDS church in Spain, so they combined forces to teach me Spanish when I was young. This meant I was often listening to Hispanic dance music and *trying* to learn how to dance to it. I can speak Spanish fluently, but the only thing fluent about my dance is how often I can step on my partner's toes. Maybe that's why it took me so long to get married?

When I went to this concert in Tioga, it was a fairly cold night. What's awesome about this music is that it all commands energy and action. It can warm up the coldest night with it's sound, feeling, nostalgia, movement, and often times sensuality. I chose this song to share with this post because it was written by Celia Cruz, a singer from Central America who is well-known for a song about Panama and how beautiful it is. Like I said before, this music is nostalgic, and this song brought me back to thinking about my mom, our trips to Panama and it's lush rainforests and beautiful pirate fort ruins. Art has that power to take the human mind places it doesn't normally go, and I would argue that this concert was a celebration of Hispanic art.
